Tummy Tuck (Abdominoplasty)

The key to good results with your tummy tuck is choosing an experienced and skilled plastic surgeon to perform the procedure. Dr. Chance Kaplan of Fort Lauderdale, Florida, has decades of experience in cosmetic and plastic surgery procedures such as tummy tucks. His patients are thrilled with their new and improved bodies, and his results speak for themselves.

Time, pregnancy and weight loss can contribute to separated abdominal muscles and loose skin in the tummy area. If you want to improve the way your stomach looks — and fit into your clothing better — a tummy tuck surgery may be the right choice for you.

The Tummy Tuck Consultation

When you contact our Fort Lauderdale clinic about your tummy tuck, you will be scheduled for an initial consultation with Dr. Kaplan to determine whether this procedure is a good choice for you. A tummy tuck, known medically as abdominoplasty, is a major surgical procedure that will require down time for healing, so it’s important for you to fully understand what happens during the procedure and what can be expected.

At your consultation, Dr. Kaplan will want to know about your health history as well as your family’s medical history and your expectations for the procedure. After the procedure has been discussed and all your questions have been answered to your satisfaction, if you and Dr. Kaplan agree that a tummy tuck is a good choice, a date will be set for your surgery.

Prior to your surgery, get your prescriptions filled and any necessary labwork done. Make arrangements for someone to drive you to and from the surgery, which will either be performed at our Fort Lauderdale surgical facility or at a nearby Fort Lauderdale hospital.

The Tummy Tuck Procedure

Dr. Kaplan will begin your tummy tuck by making an incision that runs between your navel and your pubic hair. Every effort will be made to place the incision so that it blends in with your natural curves and is less visible. The length of the incision will depend on how much skin and tissue will be removed. A second incision around your navel may also be required to repair that area.

Through the incision, Dr. Kaplan will remove excess fat and tissue and repair and suture your abdominal muscles if necessary. Before closing the incision, excess skin will be removed. The incision will then be closed with sutures or surgical staples.

Following Your Tummy Tuck

Your results may not be immediately apparent following your tummy tuck because of the bruising and swelling that will take place. This is part of the healing process and is completely normal. Take your medications as prescribed to help control the pain and swelling. Once the swelling goes down, you will be able to clearly see your new figure.

Expect the healing period to last for several weeks. During this time, you may need assistance with many activities of daily living since it will be difficult for you to stand upright while you are healing internally. Do not attempt to return to normal activity too soon; this could cause problems with the natural healing process.

Follow up with Dr. Kaplan at our Fort Lauderdale clinic as instructed so that he can check your incisions and make sure that you are healing well.
