Facelift (Rhytidectomy) Fort Lauderdale FL

If you are thinking that a facelift is right for you, the next step is to find a talented and skilled plastic surgeon who can give you natural-looking results. Dr. Chance Kaplan of Fort Lauderdale, Florida, has not only been performing plastic and cosmetic surgeries since 1987, he has also served as the Chief of Plastic Surgery from 1994 to 1997 at William Beaumont Army Medical Center.

As you age and your skin begins to lose its youthful elasticity, wrinkles and folds form, and the skin can droop and sag. Unfortunately, the aging process is most apparent when it is happening on your face. A facelift can be the key to turning back the clock and giving you back your vitality.

Your Facelift Consultation

A facelift can correct a number of imperfections that leave your face looking older and more tired than you feel. Some of the issues that can be corrected with a facelift include:

— A double chin caused by fatty deposits
— Misplaced fat
— Jowls caused by loss of muscle tone
— Sagging through the middle of the face
— Creases from the nose to the mouth
— Creases around the eyelids

When you meet with Dr. Kaplan at our Fort Lauderdale office to discuss your facelift, one of the topics will be your reasons for desiring a facelift and what you hope to accomplish. Dr. Kaplan will also talk to you about your medical history and review any current medications you may be taking.

The goal of this meeting is to determine whether a facelift is the right course of action for you. If you and Dr. Kaplan decide that a facelift is a good solution and that you are a good candidate for surgery, the next step will be to schedule your facelift. We perform most surgeries here at our Fort Lauderdale office; however, sometimes circumstances dictate that a procedure be performed at a local Fort Lauderdale hospital.

The Facelift Procedure

Your facelift begins when Dr. Kaplan makes the first incision. Where this incision is placed and its size depends greatly on what type of issue your facelift will be correcting. Most incisions will be placed around the folds of the ear, which helps to hide any scarring left by the incisions, but some may continue up into the temples while others go down and under the earlobes.

Liposuction may be performed if excess fat deposits are part of the problem. The underlying tissues may be trimmed, repositioned or redistributed to give you the smooth and youthful look you are seeking. Once your tissue is positioned correctly and secured with absorbable sutures if necessary, you skin will be redraped over the new contours of your face. Any excess skin will be trimmed away, and your incisions will be closed.

After Your Facelift

Bruising and swelling will occur following your facelift and may initially obscure your results. Take your medications as directed to help reduce your discomfort and the swelling and care for your incisions as instructed by Dr. Kaplan. Change your dressings according to your aftercare instructions and apply any ointments that Dr. Kaplan may have prescribed.

Once the swelling goes down, you will be able to see your new look. Follow up with Dr. Kaplan at our Fort Lauderdale office so that your progress and healing can be checked. Dr. Kaplan will help you determine when it is appropriate for you to return to regular activity. Don’t try to do too much too soon. Not only could it slow your healing, it could also alter your results if your tissue hasn’t fully healed.
