Nose Surgery (Rhinoplasty)

Whatever the reason you are seeking rhinoplasty, you need to know that your face is in good hands. Dr. Chance Kaplan of Fort Lauderdale, Florida, has been a trusted name in plastic and cosmetic surgery since 1987. His compassionate and reassuring nature helps his patients feel confident in their decisions to make changes to improve their appearance.

Rhinoplasty, often referred to as a “nose job,” can help correct a number of issues related to the nose. Some of the most common reasons for seeking rhinoplasty include the desire to:

– Reduce the size of a nose that is out of proportion to the other facial features

– Remove bumps or depressions along the bridge of the nose for a smoother profile

– Change the shape of the nose tip when it is bulbous, drooping or otherwise bothersome

– Change the shape of large or upturned nostrils

– Fix asymmetrical or deviated nasal passages

Your Rhinoplasty Consultation

At your rhinoplasty consultation, Dr. Kaplan will ask you important questions about your medical history and your reasons for seeking rhinoplasty. It’s important that you are as open and candid as possible when you answer these questions because they are going to help Dr. Kaplan determine whether you are a good candidate for rhinoplasty.

Come to the appointment prepared to discuss your current medications including over-the-counter medications and supplements. It would be helpful for you to bring your medication bottles with you. Dr. Kaplan may make changes to your medications since some medications can cause complications during this type of surger

Once you and Dr. Kaplan agree that rhinoplasty is a good choice for you, your surgery will be scheduled. Most surgeries take place right here in our Fort Lauderdale office. You will be given instructions for caring for yourself following your surgery as well as prescriptions to reduce discomfort and swelling. Plan ahead so that you will have adequate time to rest while you are healing.

The Rhinoplasty Procedure

Dr. Kaplan will begin your surgery once you are appropriately sedated. Depending on the flaw you are looking to correct, your rhinoplasty incisions may be placed either inside the nose or across the strip of flesh that separates your nostrils

Dr. Kaplan will lift up the tissue that covers your nose to gain access to the area that needs the work. The structure of your nose will be reshaped by either removing cartilage or by adding cartilage from another location of the body or from the septum.

Once Dr. Kaplan has fixed the structure of your nose so that it is correct, your tissues will be replaced, and your incisions will be closed. If your nostrils are being resized, this will be done now.

Following Your Rhinoplasty

You can expect swelling and bruising for some time following the surgery. It may take two to three weeks for the swelling to completely subside. While some corrections are apparent immediately after the swelling has gone down, in some cases, it may take a full year to see the complete transformation. You will still see a gradual refinement as the healing process continues.

Follow up with Dr. Kaplan at our Fort Lauderdale office as directed. Rhinoplasty often involves the use of internal tubes and splints to hold the new structure of the nose initially, and these will need to be removed. Dr. Kaplan will also need to check your healing and your progress. Follow Dr. Kaplan’s instructions for self-care and when you may return to normal activity.
