Your Consultation for Chin Implants & Augmentation

When you call our Fort Lauderdale office, you will be scheduled for an appointment with Dr. Kaplan. This initial consultation appointment will provide you with the opportunity to meet Dr. Kaplan and discuss whether chin implants are the right choice for you.

Dr. Kaplan will ask you questions about your overall health and medical history and will need to know any medications or supplements you are currently taking. Additionally, Dr. Kaplan will ask you questions as to why you are interested in chin implants and what kind of results you are anticipating from the surgery. It’s important to be open and honest with Dr. Kaplan. Your answers will not only help him determine whether chin implants are a good choice for you but will also let him know of any special precautions that need to be taken.

If you and Dr. Kaplan decide that chin implants are a good choice, your surgery will be scheduled. Most surgeries of this type will take place at the surgical suite at our Fort Lauderdale office, but some special cases may require that the surgery be performed at a local Fort Lauderdale hospital.

The Chin Implants & Augmentation Procedure

Dr. Kaplan will begin your surgery by creating an incision under your chin. This incision will be carefully placed so that it is not easily visible. Working through the incision, he will create a pocket that will hold the chin implant. Some chin implants require a different type of material and an incision to be made in the mouth. Dr. Kaplan will discuss these different materials with you and help you to decide which option is best for you.

Chin implants may be held in place with the pocket, or they may be secured to the bone of your jaw. Once the implant is in place and secure, Dr. Kaplan will close the incision using sutures and surgical tape.

Following Chin Implants & Augmentation Surgery

The amount of recovery time necessary will depend on what type of material was used for your implant and how dramatic a change was made. Dr. Kaplan will provide you with information on your aftercare following chin implants surgery including medications to take for pain and swelling, directions on caring for the incision and changing the dressing and when you can plan to return to a normal level of activity. For the best results following your chin implants surgery, follow these instructions carefully.
