Breast Lift (Mastopexy)

Time, pregnancy and weight changes can take their toll on breasts. As your skin ages and stretches to accommodate breastfeeding, it loses its elasticity. When even the most supportive bra fails to give you back the figure you once had, a breast lift, known medically as mastoplexy, may be the best solution for you.

A breast lift is not intended to significantly change the size or shape of your breasts although some women do opt to have an augmentation or reduction performed at the same time. However, if you just want your breasts to appear lifted and attractive, a breast lift is the perfect choice. Along with restoring a more youthful appearance, many breast lifts also include an areola reduction to help your breasts appear more proportionate.

Choosing the right surgeon for this type of procedure is crucial. Women in Florida and around the country are choosing the skill and talent of Dr. Chance Kaplan in Fort Lauderdale for their breast lifts and other cosmetic and reconstructive surgical procedures. Dr. Kaplan has extensive experience in these types of procedures and will give you back the shape you want.

The Breast Lift Surgery Consultation

Every surgical procedure begins with a consultation with Dr. Kaplan at our Fort Lauderdale offices. This consultation provides the opportunity for you to get to know Dr. Kaplan, understand the procedure better, learn what a breast lift can and cannot do and determine if breast lift surgery is a good choice for you.

Dr. Kaplan will ask you questions about your medical history and seek to gain an understanding of your hopes for this surgery. Once you have made your decision, your surgery will be scheduled. Depending on your needs, your breast lift will be performed at either our Fort Lauderdale surgical suite or at a nearby Fort Lauderdale hospital.

Before your surgery, you will have prescriptions to fill, and you will be required to obtain certain blood and other lab tests as well as a baseline mammogram. Dr. Kaplan will give you special instructions for the days immediately preceding your breast lift.

Your Breast Lift Surgery

Breast lifts can be performed in a number of different ways depending on the size and shape of your breasts. Each surgery will begin with an initial incision around the areola. From here, Dr. Kaplan may opt to use another larger incision around the areola, to cut down and under the breast or, if your breasts are pendulous and your areola and nipple are at the bottom of the breast, up from the areola to create an anchor position.

Once the incisions are made, your breast tissue will be repositioned and reshaped to give you the contours you are seeking. Your nipples and areolas will be moved into a more youthful and upright position, and excess skin will be excised if necessary. As the incisions are closed, the remaining skin will be tightened to prevent any sagging. While some scarring will be initially present, these scars will fade significantly over time to the point where they are barely noticeable.

Following Your Breast Lift Surgery

Dr. Kaplan will give you specific instructions on caring for your incisions and your breasts in the days and weeks following your breast lift. It is extremely important that you follow these instructions as this will determine how quickly you heal and your final results. Take your medications as prescribed and clean your incisions as directed.
